Lindsborg, Kansas - Swedish Paradise

This past weekend, we went on a trip with my Dad's extended family. Our destination: Lindsborg, Kansas. See - my Dad's family is Swedish. We try to carry on some traditions, eat traditional foods, and identify with those crazy Swedish stereo-types. Anyway, we decided to go on an adventure together to the Midsummers festival there. It was very fun seeing all of the customs, eating the fine cusine (grin) and sharing time with my family.

There is a lake in the mountains of Rocky Mountain National Park that we love. It is a short - easy hike that the boys don't complain about too much. The views are breathtaking! We go back - time & time again. This is why we love Colorado.

Hello-

It is time to start posting again. I am hoping to keep up on this and at least post a few times a month.

As most of you know, we welcomed our 3rd baby boy in March. Walker is a sweet little bug. We are all adjusting well. I am on maternity leave until next week - when I go back part-time. It is with mixed feelings...will be nice to be back in the thick of things....but I'm not ready to leave him. Justen is off from school starting June 1....so he'll have plenty of daddy time.

I have always been a little crafty, a little artistic. Over the last few weeks I have had to resurrect these abilities for good causes.... :) First, Axel and Drake wanted to personalize their rooms so I painted in their rooms. Drake wanted Sponge Bob, Axel wanted the Bronco Horse Head. Then I volunteered to help create a Quilt for my friends Baby. Thank God my friend Christy offered to help. Ok - so I've streched and worked that creative muscle....now I can put it away for awhile. :))))

Girls Weekend Away

It finally came, the weekend I had been looking forward to and needing for quite some time. My good friend Sara had her Bachlorette party in Las Vegas this weekend! It was so fun! Many of my old sorority sisters flew in for the weekend. I also met two friends of Sara's that were fantastic! We had great dinners, went to clubs, hung out by the pool, shopped, gambled and best of all caught up with each other. With the busy-ness of life, I often forget how much I enjoy just spending time with good friends!!

Hello all! I hope you had a great labor day weekend! We certainly did. We relaxed a little, worked a little, and played a lot! Those weekends never seem to be long enough. :) On Sunday we went up into the Rocky Mountain National Park to go Hiking with the boys. They REALLY, REALLY enjoyed it this time (more of a "walk" than a "hike") and are begging to go again. The weather was gorgeous! After our hike and picnic lunch, we went into Estes Park for some Ice Cream and light shopping. The boys thought it was soooo cool. Check out the pics....

Justen and I decided to take each son to a pre-season Bronco game. They have been dying to go - so we each decided preseason might be a good introduction. This weekend was our first game and Axel came with me. Although I our drive to the stadium took One Hour (normally 20 mins....but we had a torrential rain storm) the rain cleared just as we entered the stadium. Axel was so jazzed! He had the best time, and it was so fun to spend the whole evening just with him. Check out our pictures!

Trip down memory lane

So last week we took off for a much needed vacation. We decided to head back East to see friends and places we missed. We visited with many friends, went to the Jersey shore, and even managed to hit NYC. We all had a ball seeing everyone again and miss them already. We feel so fortunate to have such good friends. So finally, after living in our house almost 2 months, we had our housewarming party. It took a fierce bit of effort in the end to get pictures hung and things put away. Yes - we still have a garage and basement full of boxes....but our living space looked nice. It was fun to have our friends and family over to finally show them where we live. We ate, drank and made merry. Hopefully, the first of many parties to come. So, I guess it's official now - our new house is now a home.

Finally it has rained here. It has been SO dry here. As most of you know my dad is a farmer, and he is on the verge of losing his crops because it just won't rain. We finally had some good showers this past weekend, and even saw a rainbow. Drake said that it was the very first one we ever saw in Colorado! Ha - amazing how kids observe things.

Our Hiking Adventure

So, finally after 6 months here in Colorado, we finally got our butts up to the mountains for a little Hiking. It was the first time for the boys. You can see in the top picture one was thrilled with the adventure (Drake) one - not so much (Axel). Drake thought it was the coolest...and could have gone for hours. Axel moved between being tired, scared, bored - whatever...he seemed to whine the whole time!!! We made the whole loop though, and our reward was a gorgeous view of Boulder. We are going to attempt it again this July 4th weekend so wish us luck! ;-)

Here's why I love it here. This is what I see every morning. Its gorgeous. I have the shortest commute ever - 10 minutes - and I get to drive toward this beautiful view the whole way. Almost every day is like this. No clouds, perfect

It's been ages since I posted. Work and life have gotten really hectic. Last week we went to Seattle for a long vacation. Then I was off to Arizona for work for the rest of the week .... Whew! Anyway, Seattle was great. Beautiful weather - if you can imagine that! We saw our good friends the Makita's and their baby girl...then it was off to see the sites in Seattle. We saw the Space Needle, the Science Center, Pike Place Market and the Airplane Museum. The boys had a blast - they always love vacation. ;-) Check out our Pics.

Surprise Justen!

Most of you know that Justen has been working two long years to get his teaching degree in PE. He finished his Student Teaching and Last online course May 10. With everything being so crazy with our move and new house, etc....I'm sure he thought that it would be just a "blip" on the map. But how could I let it be???? So, I devised a plan to surprise him with a night on the town with all his friends. I told him we were going out to dinner with my friend Matt and his girlfriend (someone I knew he would never talk to). We moved into our house Friday night. On Saturday morning it looked like a Tornado hit our house...So Justen was not to thrilled with having to go out w/ one of my coworkers. Then the phone started to ring. The first call was our friend Will...Wanting to know what kind of shoes to wear. Of course, I couldn't tell Justen Will was calling - he'd get suspicious. So I said it was Matt. He grumbled and wondered why the hell Matt was calling for that. The phone proceeded to ring 5 more times Saturday before the party. Each time someone else having a question about the soiree. Justen thought my friend Matt was a real tool by the time we got into the car to go out that night. (Inside I was dying laughing). I had decided that I would tell Justen about the surprise as soon as we saw someone who wasn't Matt and his girlfriend. So we walked into the restaurant and his good buddy Doug was sitting at the Bar. Justen started saying "Wow, what a coincindence.....we should eat dinner together...blahblahblah". I only let it go on for a few mins when finally I said, "SURPRISE!". Justen was Really Really surprised! And I was tickled pink that I was able to pull it off. :-) So 19 of our good friends came for dinner and then we were off to drink and cut a rug into the wee hours of the night. My friend Matt and his girlfriend did finally show up, and thankfully, Justen didn't want to ring his neck. ;-)

Cinco De Mayo Rocks!

I've been meaning to get this up all week, but its been crazy with the move, etc. On Friday, May 5th we Closed on our new house. All went smooth & we are actually moving into today! (One week later). Later that night we went out with a bunch of people from my work to celebrate Cinco De Mayo. Really - for us, only an excuse to drink excellent Margaritas. :D Let me just say that there is a reason that "The Rio" has a 3 margarita limit. One more...and Janelle would be under the table. Heehee. You all know what a light weight I am anyway when it comes to drinking. I had my limit then we proceeded to a couple of bars and danced the night away. Great times. Notice in the pictures above the one where Justen is clearly "caught"! :P

Justen Got a Teaching Job!

Great news - Justen just got a teaching job. He had been stressing a lot lately, worried that he wouldn't get the right teaching job....worried that he wouldn't get a job at all. But after a few interviews he landed a job he is really excited about. It is for a progressive charter school called "The Pinnacle". He will be teaching HighSchool Students and eventually coaching too. The school is planning on expanding their athletics program and facilities and Justen will get to help lead that too. A Slight Improvement

A while back I had complained about my boring institutionalized office. Well - a few weeks later I have added some pictures and it feels slightly less like a mental word (though, I could really do without the gray walls.) I bought a picture of London & a World Map. These two additions both make me smile for past adventures, and long for my next big one. I found a picture about Risk - "Winners don't wait for chances - they take them." I seem to take a lot of Risks - though not sure if they make me the "Winner" I'd like to be. Oddly enough though, the picture that has garnered the most conversation is this little one I have of my Dad's sunflower field. People seemed to be both shocked and impressed that I used to be a farm girl. :-) At any rate, its one more step to settling in.

House Make Over Hell

For the past week we have been renovating my mother-in-laws kitchen. Just so you get the picture - she lives in a 1950's house that hasn't been remodeled - EVER. As a way to thank her for letting us live there for the last 4 months, we offered to redo her kitchen - Floor to Ceiling. Well - its been more of a renovation than I ever imagined. First, we had to strip the wall paper (30 year old wall paper). It refused to come down w/ chemicals so we bought a steamer. It took many evenings & lots of elbow grease to get all the paper down. Finally this weekend we finished that so we could start patching and priming the walls. Exhausting work - but starting to see the finished product is really exciting! We are going to paint the walls, cupboards and lay a new floor for her this week (rushing to finish b/f we move into our own home). Should be an amazing transformation. Thank God that our house is move-in ready. And...just fyi - in this picture I'm forcing a smile. ;-)

Okay, so I couldn't believe it this morning when I woke up and saw that the ground was covered with SNOW! Yes...that's right - snow a week before May. So yesterday, in the midst of a LOOOOOOng and boring Monday I received an awesome invite. My friend Christy had an extra ticket to the Nuggets Basketball game. :-) It was soooo fun! We had amazing seats....I am pretty sure we could see the players sweat! heeheehee. And it was so good to catch up with her and hear about what's going on in her life. Casa Bonita - ChaChaCha!

So last night, we went to Casa Bonita! Justen's Dad wanted to take the boys there so we thought why not. For those of you who don't it....it is truly magnificent! Really - - - it is this very tourist, kitschy sort of place that looks warn on the corners if you really look - - - but to a kid, it's pure magic! Of course there is the standard Mexican meal - which really isn't that Mexican - but its the entertainment after dinner that is truly unique. There are Cliff Divers, Shootouts, a Mariachi Band, an Arcade, a puppet show, a pinnate to hit - and not to be left out is the Scary cave to walk through. When I was little...We only went maybe once a year - for a birthday if we were lucky. But now, since we are currently living directly across from it, we though why not just go on a Wednesday night??? So we did. The kids loved it, and we had fun too. I even got scared in the dark cave when the silly skeleton head blew air at me. Now that's what I call FUN!

What a Difference a Weekend Makes

Ahhhh - a nice relaxing weekend. It is hard for me to remember the last time we had one. Between living in someone else's house and racing back and forth between grandparents house, things have been hectic and miserable. As I am sure you could tell, I had reached my breaking point on Friday. Luckily, Justen had suggested that we get away for the weekend - what a bright idea! We got a hotel room South of Denver and just chilled. We window shopped at the local mall, went swimming, slept late, and basically enjoyed every second. Our little get-a-way couldn't have come at a better time. All 4 of us really needed it! Now I can face the next 4 weeks....I think. ;-)

Rainy Gloomy Friday

Sigh. Fridays usually make me smile. But today I woke up grumpy. Not sure why. First, I had a little clothing "freakout" when I couldn't find my shirt in this huge pile of crap in my tiny borrowed closet. Then, as I was walking out the door to leave this morning - grumbling & running 30 mins late - I saw the rain and knew it was an omen. Today would be gloomy. After sitting in my car for 5 extra minutes and listening to a little Howard Stern, I was able to talk myself into leaving the dry comfort of my car to walk through the rain into work. All day I have been staring at my computer screen trying to create a "dynamic" proposal. Sigh. Thank God the work day is almost over & the rain has finally stopped. Maybe its an omen that I'm going to have a terrific weekend. Hahaha! :)

NCAA Pool

Ok, for those of you living under a rock recently, the final NCAA tournament game was played last night. The Florida Gators won. Now, when it comes to sports, football is my favorite. Basketball comes in at a very distant second. Like with most sports, I love to watch it live. And even now and then, Justen ropes me into watching some professional basketball game on TV. As for College Hoops...I never watch it or know much about it. But I can't deny the excitement of tournament time. While in college, my team the CU Buffs, never made it into the tournament of 64 teams. But I can imagine the utter joy you must feel when your school makes it. I love the Cinderella stories - like George Mason this year. So of course I have to join a pool at work and fill out a bracket. Sometimes I hear a little about the teams before hand, or I base my picks on reputation and ranking. Needless to say, I am not a student of the game. But somehow...Unbelievably - I did a very good job picking this year. When the buzzer sounded last night...I had placed 3rd out of 40 people. Not to shabby at all. :-)

Office Space

A friend and I were recently discussing our jobs so I decided to take a picture of my office. (Pictures as follows: My desk, My view of the rest of the office cubes, and looking out my window). Clearly the only bright spot is the sunlight that comes through my little window. When reviewing these pictures I thought to myself...How sad! Bare Walls and Shelves do not reflect who I am. So, this weekend I'm off to buy some Office Ambiance. At least 1 or 2 pictures to put up on the wall. But I'm conflicted....Should I find a poster that has a saying about work which reflects what I'm really thinking? Or should I stick with something that reflects what I should be thinking? I found some sayings which probably won't make my wall - but definitely make me smile.

We also love our digital camera. It's both still and video. It's a cannon S1 IS. It's awesome. I am neroutic about shopping for new cameras so it was completely and thoroughly researched!!

Anyhow, I am massively in love with my digital camera. It's a Canon Elph. It's about two years old so now they have even better ones with more megapixels. But it's adorably small, takes great pictures and has a good size LCD screen on the back. However, I learned my lesson the hard way... don't get sand in the lens. And don't drop is on a cement floor when you're really drunk. Other than that, works like dream!

Ugh...I am desperate for a new digital camera. Justen broke number 4 when we moved and now I feel lost with out. I love being able to take a million pictures...even if they aren't any good. :-) So I've started doing some research. There are SOOO many cameras out there! I found one good site with lots of "unbiased" reviews.

Hello from Snowy Colorado! With the first Day of Spring yesterday it was still cold and snow covered the ground. Sigh. Hard to be back in the cold after spending the weekend in Charlotte. We had a great time at my friends Shannons Wedding. We flew in on Thursday night. On Friday we had the dress rehearsal as the boys were ring bearers and I was reading a passage in the wedding. Be there at 5 - no problem right? WRONG. I decided it would be a nice walk (only around 8 blocks....right?) WRONG again! It turned out to be about much further...Especially since we passed the hall by 3 or 4 blocks! ARGH! I was running with the boys, mostly carrying them. We were so late (at least 30 mins!) I am sure Shannon was very irritated! By the time we got there the rehearsal was almost finished. The boys were like little puppies all tired out by there long run. My feet were raw with little blisters where my new "cute" sandals had rubbed them. :-( Oh well, they boys had a quick practice and then we went to the rehearsal dinner. It was at this fun low key BBQ place. The next day was the wedding and we were very careful to be EARLY. heeheehee. Shannon looked beautiful and Brian (her new hubby) looked great too. They were a very happy couple. Axel and Drake managed to get down the isle and take all their pictures without any meltdowns....A true feet indeed! All in all the wedding was very fun - now back to reality! And back to work!
